The IAWJ Afghan Support Committee awarded the Inaugural DLA Piper Pro Bono LeadHer award
IAWJ has been awarded inaugural DLA Piper Pro Bono LeadHer Award to the the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) Afghan Support Committee. DLA Piper is a global law firm with lawyers located in more than 40 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific. The award was presented at firm’s Global Women’s Leadership Summit in Chicago.
The award was accepted on behalf of the association by Judge Vanessa Ruiz, Senior Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. The award celebrates the committee “for its extraordinary efforts on behalf of female judges fleeing Afghanistan”. Indeed, the committee was created by IAWJ to help 250 Afghan members “who faced grave danger following the Taliban’s takeover of the country”. DLA Piper worked alongside IAWJ to “coordinate legal services for more than 150 Afghan judges and their family’s fleeing persecution by the Taliban”.
The IAWJ is honored by this award and proud of the work we have done on this issue. More information can be found here.
