Now, more than ever, we need your help. For over 30 years, the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) has championed women’s leadership in the judiciary, empowering judges to advance gender equality and deliver justice for the world’s most vulnerable communities. Our global network of more than 7,000 judges across 100 countries uniquely positions us to drive transformative change, upholding judicial independence, human rights, and the rule of law. At a time when these values are increasingly under siege in many parts of the world, our resolve remains strong.
Among other awards, we are thrilled to announce that the IAWJ was recently awarded the prestigious “Meninas” Award by the Ministry of Equality of Spain. This honor recognizes our unwavering commitment to defending the rights of women and girls globally and strengthens our dedication to lead the movement for gender equality and judicial integrity.
Here are some of the IAWJ’s key impact areas:
- IAWJ assisted in the evacuation of over 200 Afghan women judges and their families, providing refuge to nearly 1,000 individuals. Many of these courageous judges joined us at our Biennial Conference in Marrakesh in 2023.
- IAWJ and Co-Impact continue to collaborate to ensure that women judges are promoted to senior leadership roles. We have seen the initial results of advancement in such countries as Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Mexico, and the Philippines.
- IAWJ, in partnership with the Botswana Chapter and the University of Botswana, is championing inclusive justice by confronting judicial bias and reinforcing integrity across the judiciary.
- IAWJ, together with expert judges from Mexico, Argentina, Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, tackled the pervasive threat of cybercrime and shared effective strategies to combat gender-based violence during their recent regional conference.
To sustain and grow these critical initiatives, we are hopeful to reach our target of raising $100,000 by the end of 2024. Your contribution will have a direct impact on empowering women judges, safeguarding judicial integrity, and protecting vulnerable populations worldwide.
