YOUTH IN JUSTICE

The International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) is deeply committed to empowering the next generation of legal professionals. Through our Youth in Justice initiatives, we aim to mentor and inspire young professionals who are passionate about upholding the rule of law and advancing justice in their communities. By providing opportunities for learning, networking, and professional development, we foster the growth of young leaders who will shape the future of justice systems worldwide. Our commitment to nurturing youth reflects our belief that a fair and inclusive legal system starts with those who are just beginning their journey in law.

Promoting Inclusive Justice in Botswana - Moot Court

The Promoting Inclusive Justice in Botswana program, led by the IAWJ and the Botswana Chapter, is dedicated to bolstering the capacity of the justice sector to protect the human rights of LGBTI persons. One of our key partners in this effort is the UB Law Department, where we actively engage with students through Moot Court initiatives that explore LGBTI rights, promoting critical thinking and advocacy on these important legal matters. Additionally, we collaborate with the university's Legal Clinic, where law students are directly involved in handling real cases related to LGBTI rights. By engaging with future legal professionals in these settings, we aim to prepare future generations to view LGBTI rights within a broader human rights framework, fostering a deeper understanding of inclusive justice and equality.

IAWJ Youth Webinars

In August 2023, to celebrate the International Day of Youth, we hosted a webinar titled Empowering Youth - Mentorship Initiatives: Women Judges Inspiring the Future. The event brought together women judges from various regions to share the impactful initiatives they have implemented to mentor and guide young professionals in the legal field. The judges emphasized how mentorship plays a crucial role in guiding the future of the legal profession and empowering the next generation of justice leaders. The webinar showcased inspiring stories and practical advice on how mentorship can empower youth in the law. You can read the full report of the webinar here.
